Canada: Husky Energy renovates its training simulator

Hydrocarbons | July 2018

Husky Energy (Canada) and CORYS Inc. will be renovating the OTS at Husky’s Sunrise Oil Production plant in northern Alberta this year.

First delivered in 2013 and renovated for the first time in 2016, it has already been used to train over 40 operators.

The Sunrise site produces oil from tar sands using a process known as Steam-Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD). The OTS simulates this process in real time, along with start-up and shutdown phases and emergency scenarios. It was originally used to validate the initial settings for the plant’s I&C system.
