New Operator Training Simulators for BAPCO

Hydrocarbons | October 2019

TTSJV has awarded CORYS a project to provide eight high fidelity custom emulated Operator Training Simulators (OTS) for the Bapco Modernization Program (BMP).

TTSJV is a Joint Venture between TechnipFMC, Tecnicas Reunidas and Samsung Engineering, which has been awarded by the Bahrain Petroleum Company B.S.C. (Closed) BAPCO, the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for BMP.

BMP represents a major expansion and upgrade of the existing Bahrain Refinery from 267,000 up to 380,000 barrels per day.

CORYS will deliver INDISS PLUS® OTS for the new crude and vacuum distillation units, saturated gas plant, hydrocracker, hydrodesulfurization, sulphur complex, hydrogen recovery, hydrogen production and C3/C4 plants. OTS systems will be installed at the BAPCO Oil & Gas Academy in Awali, as well as in the new Central Control Room in the Bahrain Refinery.

Ralf Gathmann, CEO of CORYS, stated: “We are honored to have been selected by TTSJV for the execution of this major contract that represent a testimonial of the long-term partnership with Bapco and strengthen our leadership in the refining sector."

Bapco has been using CORYS’s OTS solutions since the 1990s to ensure its operators are both competent and confident in their daily duties, providing them with training for all types of operations: startup and shutdown procedures, normal operation, abnormal situations and events, dealing with alarms and emergencies. BMP will be a new milestone in the collaborative partnership between BAPCO and CORYS. The OTS for the new refining facilities is an important aspect of the project and will be a fundamental part of BAPCO's comprehensive training program with hands-on training using the dynamic simulators before and after plant start-up.
