Following an international tender, ÖBB has chosen CORYS to expand its simulator fleet with two new fullscope motion simulators. The contract extends a partnership that began in 2002, which already includes a full-motion Taurus simulator and more than 60 compact simulators.
The two fullscope simulators will be equipped with state-of-the-art motion systems for realistic, immersive training. They will be complemented by two compact simulators running the same simulation software, ensuring consistent training quality across the fleet. Three train models will be simulated (Vectron, CityJet and Taurus), each with accurate, true-to-life behaviour.
Routes will be built with the latest CGI technology in Unreal Engine. A powerful route editor will allow trainers to adapt existing scenarios and create new ones, while a comprehensive suite of instructor support modules will cover course and training results management, including an integrated multiple-choice assessment (MCQ) module.
The simulators will also feature eye-tracking technology to analyse drivers’ gaze during training, assess attention and perception, and provide targeted feedback to improve safety. Further innovative features will be presented in upcoming publications.
The project is designed to meet, and build on, the standards of ÖBB’s driver training programme. CORYS thanks the ÖBB team for its continued trust and for the constructive exchanges at every stage.
