Following an extensive tendering period including the use of a Phase 1 Proof of Concept simulator, Aurizon placed a contract with CORYS for Phase 2 of this significant multi-phase project.
This next phase will enable Aurizon to trial and confirm a revised technology-enabled classroom and OTJ training curriculum including train handling, route learning and emergency response, through the supply of 2 TableTop simulators and 2 Hybrid simulators running the Class 2800 Diesel, 3700/3800 Electric and 4100 Diesel Electric on the Jilalan to Coppabella and the North Coast Lines in Queensland.
Timothy Pease, Aurizon Manager Capability and Development explained:
“Demographic challenges and changing customer expectations have catalysed Aurizon’s largest ever investment in our training curriculum. Train drivers are increasingly interacting with sophisticated technology and need adaptive skills for safe, efficient service delivery. The driver simulators will help us modernise our training methods and resources for our next generation of train drivers”
John Madden, CORYS Commercial Director said:
“This is a significant project for CORYS. The Aurizon tender process was extremely thorough and began with field assessments, included a simulator proof of concept and culminated in a competitive tender. We are pleased to see Aurizon recognise our unique capabilities to meet their training objectives; extensive experience supplying freight operators worldwide including the US Class 1’s coupled with a strong Australasia presence and customer base. The project has been a highly successful collaboration.”
