The Technical Training Center of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) in Chattanooga has taken a major step in modernizing its training tools with the acquisition of a CORYS reconfigurable glass-panel simulator. A presentation video, recently shown during a meeting of the NRC Commissioners, highlights this both innovative and ambitious system.
A Modular Architecture for Unprecedented Versatility
At the core of the project is a modular and reconfigurable design, enabling the rearrangement of both physical panels and the software environment to replicate four different nuclear power plant control rooms. With the integration of exceptionally high-quality 4K panel graphics, each configuration offers remarkable realism and immersion for future operators.
This level of flexibility marks a significant advancement in technical training for the NRC, especially in the context of a diverse and continuously evolving U.S. nuclear fleet.
A Major Technical Collaboration
The success of this project stems from close collaboration between NRC teams and CORYS. Hardware design, graphic modeling, software development, testing, and validation—each phase demanded high-level expertise and continuous commitment from the project teams.
Commissioning Scheduled for 2026
Final testing is currently underway, with the simulator scheduled to be commissioned for training use in 2026. This next-generation simulator will significantly enhance the training capabilities of the Chattanooga center and support the skills development of inspectors and operators across the U.S. nuclear sector.
