PREEM AB has chosen CORYS to deliver a high-fidelity Operator Training Simulator (OTS) for its new HydroThermal Cleanup Unit (HCU), a cornerstone project in PREEM’s transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy at the Lysekil refinery in Sweden.
ARA’s HCU Pretreat process (also known as HVO pretreatment) is a single-step solution that cleans up a wide variety of feedstock materials using a simple refinery process, providing renewable diesel pretreatment and pretreatment for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
With just water, heat, pressure and turbulent flow, HCU Pretreat ensures a clean, high-value stream ready for conversion.
To guarantee safe and efficient operations from day one, CORYS will develop a dedicated Operator Training Simulator replicating the HCU’s feed, reaction, oil and water separation, and flushing sections. Built on INDISS PLUS® with DeltaV DCS emulation, this simulator will allow PREEM’s operators to train extensively before plant startup, reducing risks and accelerating operational readiness.
Planned for completion in winter 2026, the training simulator will play a key role in equipping operators with the skills and confidence needed to support PREEM’s renewable fuels strategy.
