CORYS completed the Factory Acceptance Test for VDEF’s new generation train driving simulators during the week of January 19th at our Grenoble facilities. This major milestone validates the technical performance and quality of a fleet of 18 cutting-edge simulators, comprising 12 Ultra Light Simulators and 6 Desk Simulators.
They integrate advanced train models including the Vectron locomotive and the CORADIA train model, providing trainees with realistic and comprehensive training experiences across different types of rolling stock. The visual environment has been entirely migrated to the latest generation, with 125 kilometres of railway lines now rendered using Unreal Engine technology. This migration delivers unprecedented levels of realism and immersion, creating training scenarios that closely replicate real-world driving conditions.
A key feature of the simulators is the integration of ETCS (European Train Control System) in accordance with ERA (European Union Agency for Railways) specifications and specific national rules. This ensures that the use of simulators for initial, continuing and supplementary training meets the highest European railway standards and optimally prepares train drivers for their daily work. This implementation underlines the growing importance of standardised train control systems in European rail transport.
This project strengthens the long-standing partnership between CORYS and VDEF, which began in 2008. Over the years, this collaboration has been reinforced through annual maintenance contracts, ensuring continuous system support, performance optimization, and ongoing technological updates.
The successful delivery of these next-generation simulators demonstrates CORYS’s commitment to providing innovative, high-quality training solutions that evolve with the needs of modern railway operations.
